Workers said that they still find difficult to take legal leaves although U Win Shane, the Deputy Minister of Labour said that they are taking steps for workers to enjoy the legal leaves.
It is said that the Deputy Minister of the ministry of labour said this on June 24th at the opening ceremony of air conditioner repair and installation course and restaurant service course for young people to get employment opportunities at the Yangon Region Skills Training Institute (Yankin).
The Deputy Minister said they are trying for the workers to enjoy seniority, casual, medical and maternal leaves in accordance with the law.
But it became difficult for factory workers to get legal leaves since after the coup.
This is happening in most of the factories, and the Ministry of Labor is weak in taking action to solve the violation of legal rights.
“We don’t get any leaves. We don’t get casual leaves. 4,800 kyats is cut for taking medical leaves. We are cut no matter which type of leave we take,” said a worker from LITA MYANMAR garment factory.
Labor activists are criticizing that no action has been taken by to resolve cases of forced labor and labor right violations after the coup d'état.
